Frequently Asked Questions
Housing
Do I have to stay in conference housing? You can stay anywhere you want to stay, but here are the advantages to staying in one of the conference hotels.
Tsunami has negotiated the lowest rate possible at each hotel. You can't get a lower rate for these hotels anywhere.
These are first class hotels. Your students will really enjoy staying there.
Most hotels are in walking distance of Tsunami. If not, it will say so.
Most importantly, if you ever have a problem with the hotel, you have the power of the Tsunami contract behind you. It won't solve every problem, but it can sure help.
Will my credit card be charged? Not when you make your reservation? When you check in you can pay with credit card or church check.
Do I need the names of every student I'm bringing now? No. Of course the hotels want this information as soon as possible. It helps them know that you really are needing all the rooms you reserved. Of course rooming lists change (sometimes even on the bus ride to Tsunami). So, just get the list into the hotel as soon as you can. If you can send before Christmas, they hotel can check you in as a group. If not, just bring the list with you when you arrive. There will be a form posted on the web site later.
Are there any extra charges? Sadly, always. You can count on taxes of 15.065%. Most hotel also charge for parking. Those will be listed with each hotel. Note that the convention center also charges for parking, so staying close can say you that charge. Other than that, you can avoid extra charges by requesting that outside phone service and pay-per-view movies by disconnected in each room. This should actually be the default, but mention it anyway.
How many people can stay in each room? The rates are the same for up to four people per room.
What's the best way to house the chaperones? Tsunami requires only one chaperone for every seven students. This means you only need one chaperone for every two rooms. Churches usually put the chaperone in the room with the "less responsible" students. This is the cheapest way. Tsunami actually recommends that you house chaperones in their own rooms at two per room and house students separately. This prevents adults being alone with students. Use your own judgment and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Tsunami cannot be responsible for conduct in the hotel rooms.
